This downshift nose-dive is probably the most pronounced as it actually manifests body motion and the duration of this 3-2 bind is somewhere between 0.5 to 1 full second (this SUCKS!). When you slow down to turn or whatever, and then begin to accelerate again, if the van feels it needs to downshift from 3-2, again there is a very noticeable bind and again van will nose dive as if 2nd clutch engaged before 3rd disengaged. Now lets go back to gears 2 & 3 and lets talk about cold 3-2 downshift. To keep this bindup from happening and these lights from illuminating and as an attempt to prevent premature wear on the clutches we just drive the van in 3rd for at least 10 minutes then shift on the fly to "D".Ħ. After the 2nd attempt, the van throws the CEL + TCS + flashing "D". Each time you can feel the van slightly decelerating as if there is binding as if it engaged 4th but never disengaged 3rd. If I try to drive the van in "D" while cold, the transmission will attempt to shift into 4th two times. 3-4 shifts will not happen period until tranny is warm. 2 seconds where you feel it as two thumpsĥ. Duration of this bindup is split second.as in it doesnt manifest any body motion or nose dive. 2-3 shifts are always Hard - Van lurches forward then sudden deceleration as if it engaged 3rd before disengaging 2nd. Reverse - 1st has a slight almost unoticable delay and you can tell that the tranny is binding up as if 1st Gear cluth engaged before Reverse disengagedĤ. Park - Reverse sometimes clunks sometimes normalĢ. I’ve even thought about taking a video and posting it to show anyone here who may have been familiar with this problem. Thanks!! So I haven’t really been super detailed about the “abnormal shifting”. I just have to drive in D3 until it warms up awhile, then about 10 minutes later problem is all gone away and I can shift into D.Ĭlick to expand.Great information here. They may be right but if my trans still runs strong and shifts great when warm 18000 miles later, seems replacement is a bit excessive. Pretty amazing.įrom a few other posts on here I think I'll try replacing the pressure switches and see if that gets me anywhere.Įveryone one on here keeps telling me I'm doomed and need tranny replacement/rebuild. And I can't hardly believe it but I've gotten as high as 21mpg on long autobahn trips at those speeds. The problem has not gotten any worse or better. Autobahn driving is pretty harsh with lot of full throttle accelerations and cruising at 90-100mph. Then I just threw the blue one at it in last ditch effort.īeen troubleshooting for over a year and have put 18000 miles on it driving at autobahn speeds (100+mph) here in Germany. When that didn't fix it I thought I replaced the wrong ones so I replaced the purple ones too. So I replaced the solenoids that the manual called for (green). Once it warms up, problem goes away entirely. I've replaced every solenoid except the Orange one and hasn't fixed a very pronounced "cold" 2-3-4 shifting problem. Thanks! Any chance you know what the green ones do?
